Hardware - Antibacterial

The Problem:
Contact surfaces in hospitals are a real problem area for bacterial cross contamination. Staff, visitors and patients all use them equally, and the sheer number and successive nature of such contacts makes them almost impossible to control from a hygiene perspective.

The Solution:
Utilising Microban® antibacterial technology, our Access to Health range of Architectural door furniture offers a long lasting effective antibacterial protection system. Microban antibacterial protection is incorporated into the polymer structure of the nylon during the production phase of our door furniture. This unique process ensures that:

  • It cannot be scratched away.
  • It cannot be washed off.
  • It does not degrade over the lifetime of the product.
  • Even if the surface is chipped or damaged, the antibacterial protection will still function regardless.

Embedded in the polymer matrix of the nylon, the active agent is equally distributed throughout the upper surface area, and provides continual and reliable prevention of germ build-up.

The illustration on the right demonstrates the reduction of a salmonella cluster over a 24 hour period on a Microban® treated surface, in patent contrast to the clear germ proliferation on an untreated surface.

These are some of the most important pathogens that are frequently found in hospitals, and play a part in the further spread of patients’ infections. All of these germs (and many others) are effectively controlled by Microban®, providing durable protection across the entire Access to Health antibacterial hardware range.
